Sony Says PlayMemories Mobile App Can Now Connect to iPhones with NFC

Until recently, Apple iPhones could not connect to cameras using the NFC (near field connection) protocol. Although recent iPhone models have an NFC antenna, that capability was limited to use for Apple Pay transactions. In recent months, though, Apple has “unlocked” the ability of the NFC antenna to read NFC tags, which means some iPhone models can now (according to Sony) connect to Sony camera using NFC.

I was not able to test this function, because my iPhone is an SE model, which apparently does not include this capability, at least not currently. According to Sony, “iPhone 7 and later models with iOS 11 or higher” can now connect with the Sony DSC-RX100 VI camera using the PlayMemories Mobile app, version 6.3 or higher.
